Gaming

I first came into contact with computer games in 1987 in the former GDR. Even though the games were simple they managed to catch my attention and made my imagination work overtime – much like books did and do. In 1991 I bought my first computer and ever since gaming has been a huge part of my life. Nowadays this is not only a hobby but also my career.

The day my dorm room got connected to the internet in 1999 a whole new world opened up for me. Suddenly playing games could become a social and competitive experience and I immediatly started participating in competitive online gaming by founding my clan NVA with friends from the same dorm. We played Team Fortress Classic, the clan grew and we quickly made our way into the premier division of national and international leagues like ESL (back then named ESPL and DeCL), UKTFCL, GTFL. Later we managed staying #1 in the ESL ladder for more than a year.

This video shows some in-game action from Team Fortress Classic and some of the guys that fought under our banner.

From 2005 on I played World of Warcraft for sixth years and quickly found myself leading the guild „WoW in eXcess“ (EU, Mannoroth). Both in TFC and in WoW I found not only challenges and entertainment but most importantly wonderful people that nowadays happen to be amongst my closest friends and co-workers.

Besides working full time and as a photographer at the side I am still an avid gamer. Currently I fancy playing World of Tanks and a round of PLAYERUNKNOWN’s Battlegrounds now and then. I am streaming World of Tanks at least twice a week at www.Twitch.tv/RiipaHimself. Feel invited to drop by and say hi. While not being one of the best players (yet) I am currently working my way to the 99 percentile.
