„I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.“ (Voltaire)

This April our government brought a draft bill into parliament that introduced internet censorship by police authorities. Since the draft bill uses the fight against child pornography as a fig leaf to cover it’s tremendousness I was very much concerned that no one would have the heart to do something against this law bill. In the beginning it seemed like my doubt were absolutely right. When even our economics minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg defamed people who opposed and some politicians started to talk about expanding this law to copyright infringement, radicals and various other things they dislike I kind of resigned. A brave new world where the police authority controls what average people are allowed to read, play or look at seemed to be within grasp – and as a child of the the GDR that scared me a lot.
But as matter of fact the public opinion changed in the last few days and weeks; more and more people stand up for our basic rights and the separation of powers that is fixed in the German Constitutional Law. Today more than 108.000 people have signed a petition at the Bundestag to overrule this bill.

Please support this petition by signing it! It will stay open until the 16th of June 2009.

Up, up and away…

When I started to work at Jamba more than 4 years ago Thorsten was one of the first guys I met there. He showed me how to upload a game, introduced me to the magic of the SIM card „@25“ that worked with each and every handset and to cut the long story short gave me a nice and easy start here.
Over time we found out that we share our love for meat, black humour and computer games and became friends. When Thorsten started playing World of Warcraft we even had some chances to fight side by side right before his addiction cooled down.
Yesterday Thorsten gathered all his family and friends to celebrate his leave. In June he’s moving to Australia with his girlfriend. Even though this means we probably won’t meet for a long time, I wish him all the best and no unedifying meetings with stingrays, toads, snakes, jellyfish and whatever poisonous abominations Australia holds ready.
For all those who have to stay here Thorsten is writing a blog.

As time goes by…

The last weeks (or should I say months?) have been quite devastating. Way too much work, too little sleep compensated with too much caffeine… right now I could badly use some time off. But unfortunately there are still some weeks of constant insanity to go until we go to Hungary for a short break.
But as always in life, there is another side of the coin. Due to little time I didn’t spend at work I wasn’t able to squander money on various senseless things and when I ran into a low priced Nikon D60 I could finally afford this beauty! Even though it was a long time waiting for a new camera I am more than ever convinced that it was worth it. You can find some of the first pictures I took here. Obviously the D60 tends to overexpose a bit in the blazing sun, but after all that’s no big deal since there a various ways to deal with it. Right now I play around with all the settings and try to make use of more than some automatic modes.

P.S. If anyone is willing to please me: Try buying me this zoom lens. Would be very much appreciated. 😉

Don’t you hear me calling you?

Yesterday my birthday party took place and a lot of people showed up. My little flat was kind of crowded but everybody seemed to like the cuddly atmosphere. 😉 With the help of Ronny and Mitch I prepared the mighty „Ursuppe“. To get an idea of what this so called „mother of all stews“ is all about, you might want to click this link. To my surprise the two pots were eaten up in no time, but luckily I received a meat cake (*MJAM!*) as a gift and at least to my knowledge no-one had to go home hungry.

Tonight I’m going to meet Matti and Mikko for dinner. My godfather and his nephew Mikko are in town for a few days and unfortunately this will be the only chance of seeing the guys. D’oh!

… my make-up may be flaking, but my smile still stays on!

Well, there are many web logs out there which are pretty packed with news about books and movies and stuff, but I tend not to write too much about the things I read, watch or listen to. However there are some exceptions and today is one of those rare days. Yesterday I’ve been to the cinema with some folks and we watched „Gran Torino“. Honestly guys, this is one of the best movies I have seen in years! Do yourself a favour and watch this movie, it’s brilliant!

Also there will be a small birthday party on Wednesday the 1st April. No kidding! If you want to join in give me a call and BYOC! 😉

Also I had to order some new glasses yesterday. The bastard optician is going to charge me not less than 450 Euro for two lenses and a piece of wire. Damn you! Again I could have bought a nice digital SLR for that money. Or a playstation 3 AND Singstar: Queen.

Damnit!

It’s one of these days I guess. The make up game against Türkiyemspor was canceled again. Gnarf!

But there’s two cool things I didn’t mention in yesterdays post. First thing is, that Sandy sent a absolute hilarious birthday song by the „Arrogant Worms“. I nearly wetted my pants while listening. But watch for yourself:

Second thing is another utterly charming birthday song. When Micha & Anja called me yesterday, little Susanne did a absolutely charming performance of the sandmans song from German television. So sweeeeet! 🙂

A short recap

First of all: Thanks folks for all the birthday congratulations! That cheered me up a lot!

Last week I did a little traveling and visited Manu. In fact it’s the first time in years that I have been to Dresden, the first time in year’s I met Manja and Olli and the very first time I met Lotte, the cute daughter of Manja and Olli. The weather wasn’t as good as I hoped for, so I really froze when I roamed around the city on Thursday. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to visit the famous Frauenkirche, but at least we had some really tasty steaks at the Maredo restaurant on Friday.
On Saturday Manu, Olli and me went to Leipzig, where we did some role-playing with Karsten, Thomas and Micha Z. (Guess what! Yap, for the first time in years…) and where I had a wonderful brunch at Sunday.

Tomorrow I’m going to watch the Chemnitzer FC play. It’s been quite a time since I had the chance to see them, but I am still a huge fan. My home team is playing against Türkiyemspor 1978 in Berlin, so I’m able to go there right after work. You better not disappoint me guys, I’m really looking forward to this!
