Caroling

It’s Christmas time. The time to sit in the parlour and sing carols along with your loved ones. So on Saturday we went all the way to Dresden to sing along with the Eastside Boys. Even though I do not only work with some of the guys but also run around wearing their shirts and own every album they’ve released, I didn’t make it to any of their gigs until now. Shame on me!
We started the evening with a dinner at Manu’s preferred Italian restaurant, which is not exactly a „punk“ thing to do, but then again we aren’t punks and it was nice anyway. The music part of the whole thing began with Lord James who were doing a pretty good job as a support act. If you’re into the whole US punk/skater punk thing you’ll prolly like them.
The boys themselves played a set of 20 songs including two new ones and a cover of Cock Sparrer’s classic „Riot Squad“. Of course the mighty watering can filled with „Pfeffi“ came into operation when the boys played „Pfeffi macht den Punk kaputt“.
Altogether it was a nice evening with an amazing show. If you’re into punk and aren’t afraid of some grim looking yet friedly Oi!-Skins then I strongly recommend you to attend their show if the boys are back in (your) town. For the time being you might want to check out their music at MySpace.

Nerdrage

Some days have passed since the whole staff dismissal thing happened. While things slowly seem to get back to the „snafu“ kind of shittiness, more and more stories of what happened to one or another colleague start to circulate.

Yesterday I learned about this one guy who really got mad at the company when he got booted out. Well, let’s put things straight: Most of us are sensation whores and so am I. Of course I was eager to get to know what he did in his anger. Did he yell to those HR/lawyer guys? Did he tell them all the funny things each of us wanted to tell them once in a while? Did he delete important data from his box? Did he smash his computer hardware? Did he maybe even give them „bad buys“ a good beating?
Finally, this whole tragedy seemed to have a fun part and once again I was ready to spit in life’s face and have a good laugh even if there’s nothing to laugh about.

When the colleague told me what really happened I was shocked. Who could have imagined that this guy is _such_ a mean bastard? He did nothing of the things mentioned above, but he wrote an very angry blog post on Facebook. Wait, he did WHAT? He actually BLOGGED about being absolutely super pissed? Where’s the whole getting mad thing in this getting mad thing damnit? It’s not as if this guy had a billion followers on Facebook who would spread the word, alarm the freaking mass media and ultimately ruin the whole company. It’s just some kiddo telling his fiftysomething so called friends on Facebook (80% of them happen to be co-workers anyway…) that he’s displeased with the whole situation.

Well then, maybe it’s true that it’s never been easier for employers to deal with us employees then today. Not only are we swallowing every bitter pill we get offered, but we’re doing it with a big grin on our face. And if somebody has the guts to oppose, the very best thing he can imagine is doing a blog post on Facebook. We are ready to fight for our right to party . We sign online petitions to get our favorite kind of chocolate back to the shelves. But when it comes down to forming a work council we drop our heads in shame. Fucking nerdrage. Fucking nerds.

Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

With our police once again beating up protesters and our Minister of the Interior Wolfgang Schäuble once again telling stupid things, I just wanted to remind everybody to go and vote on Sunday! Let the Jolly Roger fly and make sure that this Big-Brother-wannabe-scum and the whole anti-privacy legislation won’t be there for another four years!

AAAAAAAARRRRRRRR!!!!

Who’s motorcycle is this? – It’s not a motorcycle, baby, it’s a chopper.

Yesterday I watched the new Tarantino movie „Inglourious Basterds“. I was really excited to finally see it since many people deem „Inglourious Basterds“ to be the best work Tarantino has done since „Pulp Fiction“. While this may be (I didn’t like „Kill Bill“ _that_ much…) I nevertheless felt a tiny, little disappointment.
The movie definitely had it’s brilliant moments, as well well as some hilarious dialogues but it also startled me in some way. The Basterds themselves being vengeful buggers that make no difference between drafted soldiers and real Nazis, the audience happily chuckling at every killed and scalped Nazi scumbag… are we really _that_ different from the audience that watched the propaganda film in film and frenetically acclaimed every killing blow of the German marksman?
Anyway it’s still a good and very entertaining movie and you should go and watch it!

Into details

Obviously I haven’t been a blabbermouth lately. Not that I lack of interesting things to tell, but I am still the same lazy bastard I have ever been. But then again… no news is kind of good news, isn’t it? No, now it’s time to get up the energy to do a short recap, great things happened:

Is there anybody out there who still remembers my post from the 25th February this year? Denouement: Happy birthday Ulrike! All the best to you, your lovely sister and your wonderful parents! <3

Some other (and way less important!!) things that happened since my last post here: In July the infamous Jamba summer party took place and of course I did catch a terrible cold. Since it felt so important to be at work at this time I protracted the cold for weeks and hauled my rotten carcass to work day after day after day – it was awful. Let’s see if I learned something from it and will act more wisely the next time… 🙂

In August I went to a gathering of my World of Warcraft guild in Gießen. We met in a brewery where some of our boys work. Besides the inevitable high amount of booze and all the chit-chat even a suckling pig was involved in this gathering which made it as tasty as nice. 🙂

Also I bought a brand new zoom lens for my Nikon D60 lately. It’s „just“ a rather reasonable priced Sigma 70-300 mm lens but nonetheless I am very much exited about all the new possibilities. If there only were a nude beach nearby… 😀

The last weekend was a quite expensive but all satisfying one. On Friday some colleagues and I went to see Die Toten Hosen live at the Waldbühne in Berlin. While the sound wasn’t very good the band played a very energetic show and the fans obviously had a lot of fun.
On Saturday we (Markus, Micha, myself) went to Leipzig where we met with Karsten, Leo and Manu. We roamed from restaurant to restaurant and from bar to bar. Besides beef jerky and booze we had sundaes, tasty knuckles and a lot of talking with the old buddies. It was good to see you guys!

Forza Scuderia Ferrari! FORZA!

Yesterday Michael Schumacher decided to take back what belongs to him. As a substitute for the injured Felipe Massa the seven times World Champion will team up with Kimi Raikkönen and once again get behind the wheel of the „Red Goddess“.
Well, I’ve been waiting for this for years. My two favourite drivers (for different reasons..)

united by the Red Goddess. This is awesome! Forza Scuderia Ferrari!

A post in which the author honors the greatest coward there is: Dr. rahv

I know I’ve been a bit lazy posting news lately, but this isn’t intended to catch up on things, but to celebrate a good friends sweet success.

After countless years of being a doctoral student at the University of Magdeburg – or having „no real job“ as someone once referred to it* – Karsten not only finished his thesis, but also successfully held his dissertation defence. So I guess from now on I have to call him Doc Karschti which sounds pretty nice to me. (Just for the record: „Nice“ as in „that will annoy him a lot“ or in „he’s going to hate it“!) Sweet!

But seriously: Great job Karsten! Big time congrats! **cheers** And the best thing about it is that you’ve prolly finish your work before Manu wrote down a single word of his own dissertation! **bg**

*Sorry Karsten, I couldn’t pass the chance to quote this one here. Still epic… 🙂

Oh no, I’ve said too much, I haven’t said enough.

I am back from the badly needed vacation – and I DO feel way better now. Even though I did catch a cold and felt weak for some days it was quite fun and I really liked the whole „punk rock + tasty food + alcohol“-thing. I took more than 400 pictures of the boozehounds, the beautiful countryside and the mighty lump of meat we grilled and will link some of them later.
Today I visited my ancestors and poked around within some old stuff I stored in my dads garage some years ago and haven’t touched since then. As always this kind of activity was funny and disturbing at the same time, since it brought back a lot of memories. I even found some old backups thought lost (all hail to the indestructible Verbatim Metal AZO!) containing some files that mean a lot to me. To let everyone participate in this happy event I am planning to do a re-release of my very first homepage once I’ve checked if everything still works fine. Stay tuned for this eye cancer causing crime against the internet. 🙂
